I wanted to do the Honoring the Earth Show for several reasons.  The first is that like so many other artists I adored Kitty Couch, and though I didn’t see her often when we did see each other it was as if only a day had passed.

The second reason is that this year I lost my best friend Polly Harrison to lung cancer. She was an extremely talented artist who worked in recycled materials and who imbedded in me a strong belief in protecting and cherishing our environment. By participating in this show I hope to honor her memory also.

Bio:

Marianne Weinberg-Benson
Known for her precisely thrown porcelain vessels, Weinberg-Bensons most recent work is a marked departure in material and form. She has taken the pastel drawings off the surface of her slick vessels and teapots and carved them in three dimensions from industrial clay brick. In this new body of work she continues to explore the themes that have consistently informed her work: the dichotomy of relationships and self, the stages we continue to emerge from as humans, the many directions in which we are continually pulled and the joy we experience from simple pleasures.

She has won numerous awards and grants as well as commissions for public art works. The most recent is a permanent site sculpture at the Robert Fulton Library commissioned by the Fulton County Arts Council. In 1996 she completed an AIA award winning permanent installation at The Medical Center MARTA Station, Atlanta, Georgia.
